Morocco's Decisions Regarding MINURSO Are Irrevocable: Official

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The Moroccan government said on Thursday that the decision it made last week to suspend its voluntary contribution to the United Nations mission in the Western Sahara known as MINURSO are irrevocable.

Last week Morocco informed the United Nations of its decision to remove much of MINURSO's civilian component.

Morocco's decisions “are proportional to serious blunders of the Secretary General of the UN who have violated the territorial integrity and the Moroccan people' the Moroccan government said following its weekly meeting.

During a press briefing held in the afternoon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the end of its information and coordination meeting with all leaders of political parties and trade unions Salaheddine Mezouar said that Morocco continues to work with the military component of MINURSO to maintain the cease-fire.

“Morocco has never broken the dialogue nor closed the door of dialogue with the UN because the kingdom is a responsible country that acts with determination” he said.

Asked about the report that Ban Ki-moon will submit to the Security Council next April the Minister said that if the report “not balanced and factual it will not be credible.”

“The entire international community will consider it biased if it does not take into account the reality of the Moroccan case and the context of the national cause” he said.

Mezouar also strongly denounced attempts to put “pressure” exerted by the parties within the UN General Secretariat to “influence” the members of the Security Council.

“It is a daily war against Morocco and aims to cover up excesses and provocations of the UN Secretary General in trying to influence the Security Council members” he pointed out.

“Morocco has no problem with the Security Council. The problem is limited to Ban Ki-moon's dangerous statements and blunders that are unique in their kind. His words threaten peace in the region” he said.
