UAE- Reckless driver in Fujairah to pay blood money for manslaughter


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In a rare verdict the Fujairah Court of Appeals has ordered a motorist to fast for two months for causing unintentional death of a pedestrian.

Upholding the lower court's verdict the Fujairah Court of Appeals found S.A. guilty and charged him with manslaughter.

The victim M.A. an Emirati who sustained serious injuries was pronounced dead after being admitted to Fujairah Government Hospital. The court slapped S.A. with a fine of Dh3000 and ordered him to pay Dh200000 in blood money (diyya) to heirs of the victim.

According to court records traffic policemen arrested the suspect and referred him to the Public Prosecution which charged him with manslaughter due to his reckless driving. The case was sent to the Fujairah Court of First Instance which found him guilty of manslaughter.
