Kuwait to use high tech to upgrade detection at ports of entry


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT March 23 (KUNA) -- Kuwait General Administration of Customs (KGAC) has signed an agreement with Global Clearinghouse Systems (GCS) to equip the nation's ports of entry with X-ray detection and inspection devices to ensure the safe and secure passage of goods into and out of the country director of KGAC Khaled Al-Saif said on Wednesday.

This agreement is congruent with KGAC policy of updating customs procedures at all ports of entry a job that has been entrusted to be undertaken by GCS as per a BOT agreement with it said Al-Saif in a press statement following the signing of the agreement which took place at the venue of the British Embassy.

KGAC will get the inspection and detection equipment from Smiths Detection Company in the UK which is owned by Smiths Group -- a global technology company seen as a world leader in the practical application of advanced technologies. Smiths Group delivers products and services for contraband detection among other undertakings.

The inspection and detection equipment will be the first of their kind used in Kuwait that will boost the levels of security at Kuwaiti ports of entry said the CEO and board chairman of GCS Dr. Mohammad Al-Ansari.

The equipment will consist of X-ray scanners that can detect goods and luggage and vehicles at all ports of entry including the airport and major sea ports said managing director at GCS Abdullah Al-Misbah.

On his part Paul Baker Smiths Detection Company's Managing Director for its operations in the Middle East said that Kuwait is a major market for the company noting that the detection equipment will help customs officials to face the growing challenges of doing their jobs speedily and accurately.
