Cameroon chief lawmaker lauds Kuwait's support for his country


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO March 23 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Cameroon National Assembly Djibril Cavaye Yeguie on Wednesday lauded Kuwait's substantial support for his nation namely its funding of many development ventures in the country.

Yeguie speaking during a meeting with a visiting Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation in the capital Yaounde called for boosting cooperation between Kuwait and Cameroon at various levels.

He explained to the visiting Kuwaiti legislators that his country now needs aid because a large number of farmers are fleeing northern regions to the cities and the capital due to recurring attacks and repression by the militia Boko Haram. Although the relocated receive assistance from the government and international aid agencies "the situation in this respect is unsatisfactory" the chief lawmaker said.

Shedding further light on mounting problems due to terrorism Yeguie said economic ties with regional countries namely Chad Central Africa the Niger and Nigeria have been undermined.

For his part head of the Kuwaiti delegation MP Saud Al-Heraiji expressed support for the local government's war against terrorism pledging further support with available resources. He called on the local authorities to facilitate work of Kuwaiti charities in the country to reach the orphans and the poor.

Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) which has offered substantial help in the past along with Kuwaiti associations and charities will continue the relief support for those in need in the Cameroon he pledged.

Terrorism must be fought everywhere and anywhere he said calling on the Cameroon to support a Kuwaiti plan to suspend Israel's membership in the Inter-Parliamentary Union. He also indicated that Kuwait was also seeking the country's support for its quest to lift the international suspension of the Kuwaiti sports.

MP Hamdan Al-Azmi said Kuwait at the Arab-African Summit held in November 2013 presented USD billion worth of a soft loan to African nations "however the Cameroon has not benefited from it till today." But a third Kuwaiti legislator Ahmad Al-Azmi said Kuwait had granted USD 10 million to the Cameroon to build schools.

The head of the delegation relayed an invitation from Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim to his counterpart in the African nation to visit the Gulf country.

The meeting was attended by the Nigeria-based Kuwaiti non-resident ambassador to the Cameroon Abdulaziz Al-Sharrah. (end) ms.rk
