China elevates embargo on ivory shipments
(MENAFN) China has extended its prohibition on ivory imports to protect African elephants, as declared by the State Forestry Administration.
The nation plans to forbid shipments of ivory until Dec-2019, and this ban has come after another one-year ban made on Feb-26 last year.
Nonetheless, the trade and sale of ivory carvings are legal in the world's second largest economy if the activities conform to certain guidelines.
Moreover, raw elephant ivory and products should only be processed at selected places, sold by certain outlets and must be separately tracked.
