Belgian media: Brothers El Bakraoui behind Brussels attacks

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS March 23 (KUNA) -- The brothers named El Bakraoui were the perpetrators of the terror attacks in Brussels on Tuesday in which 34 people were killed and over 200 injured.

Belgian news network VRT Wednesday said one of them blew himself up at Brussels Zaventem airport. The other was involved in the suicide attack on the Maelbeek metro station. A third fugitive is still being sought by police.

The brothers were seen yesterday on surveillance images of the airport just before the attack.

The El Bakraoui brothers are no strangers to criminal investigators. Khalid El Bakraoui was sentenced in 2011 to five years in prison for a series of car-jackings. Ibrahim El Bakroui was involved in a violent robbery in Brussels in January 2010.

One of them had rented a house under a false name in the Brussels suburb of Forest where police killed a person in a gun battle last week. The main suspect of the Paris attacks Salah Abdeslam reportedly stayed in that house.

Belgium is observing three days of mourning on the aftermath of the attacks. (end) nk.hb
