Turkey forecasts devastating USD12b loss in tourism

(MENAFN) Turkey's tourism sector projects to see a USD12 billion loss in incomes through this year, as the posted numbers for the 1st three months are already much worse than predicted.

The issue has mainly risen amid escalating security concerns and the substantial decline in the number of Russian tourists, upon the political conflict that emerged between the two nations.

Moreover, the total of European tourists may drop by nearly half in 2016, adding that the number of Iranian tourists is also anticipated to fall by 15,000 this year to 30,000 from about 45,000 last year.

"The number of Russian tourists has almost zeroed over this year and we expected a significant drop in the number of arrivals from Europe, mainly from Germany," said a government official.
