Stars assemble in Doha for Gymnastics Challenge Cup


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Swiss artistic gymnast Giulia Steingruber is ready to showcase her skills at the Doha Artistic Gymnastics Challenge Cup starting at Aspire Academy tomorrow.

Doha: Top stars arrived in Doha for the Ninth edition of Doha Artistic Gymnastics Challenge Cup starting at Aspire Academy tomorrow.

The three-day showpiece event features the participation of over 100 gymnasts from 33 countries including China Cuba Argentina Armenia Sweden Azerbaijan Brazil Costa Rica Croatia Finland Slovenia Switzerland Syria Turkey Vietnam and hosts Qatar.

The Judges Committee of the tournament will meet at Aspire Academy today to finalise their arrangement for the qualifications to begin tomorrow.

On the other hand the Organising Committee of the 2016 World challenge Cup will organise a press conference at Aspire Academy on to present the star athletes to participate in the event.

President of QGF and Chairman of Organising Committee Ali Ahmad Essa Al Hitmi said “With support from the State of Qatar we have worked hard to earn the confidence of FIG who awarded us the rights to host this event. Our next goal will be the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in 2018.”

“We in the QGF aim to bring in the vision of the Qatar Olympic Committee into reality and to make Doha the main sport destination in the Middle East. Hosting such an event will enable us to provide the opportunity for our youth to gain more experience so they can achieve the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030” Al Hitmi added.

For her part the QGF Assistant Secretary General and Tournament Director Abeer Al Boainain stressed that the QGF has completed its arrangements for the world event as the gymnasts will begin their training sessions at Aspire Academy from tomorrow.

Tickets for the Qatar Artistic Gymnastics Challenge Cup 2016 can be purchased through tournament website www.dohagym.com or from the Qatar Gymnastics Federation headquarters located in the 5th floor at Al Bidda Tower. Tickets will be also available at Aspire Academy during the event.

Abdulrhaman Al Muftah Head of Spectators Committee said: “We are thrilled with the response to initial sales online and at the QGF Headquarters” he said.

“The support the fans provide the gymnasts and to event each year truly shows how important the Qatar Artistic Gymnastics Challenge Cup has been for the past 9 years and it only continues to grow.”

“We are extremely pleased to continue our promotional activities for our event and to inform the residents of Qatar and the country’s visitors that this annual world-class sporting events is fast approaching” He added.

Al Muftah reaffirmed that the federation has invited the Qatar Orphan Foundation (Dreima) and the Qatar Social and Cultural Center for Deaf to witness the championship.
