Doha : Aspetar the leading specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital and Qatar University’s College of Pharmacy have inked a clinical training agreement to offer the use of the required training facilities for female students of the college to fulfil their academic requirements.

“The partnership between Aspetar and the college form an important dimension in the development of education in the field of sports medicine and will provide an opportunity for students to develop clinical pharmacy skills in the field of sports medical care and for preparation for medical coverage” said Dr Al Kuwari.

“The college is proud to partner with Aspetar in this agreement. The new partnership builds on the college’s commitment to prepare our students in the use of pharmaceuticals in sports-related cases.

“This year in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030 we launched an elective course ‘Drugs in Sport’ to address this topic and are thrilled that our students will have the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of Aspetar’s sport medicine team in completing their clinical rotations” said Prof El Kadi.

The college is first with only pharmacy programme in Qatar and the only institution outside Canada accredited by Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy.

It is accredited for its bachelor and doctorate programmes and Aspetar will be affiliated as a partner in practical training for both.

Starting this June Aspetar will function as a training location for college students to enable them to put their theoretical learning into practice. As part of the training programme within the Bachelor’s degree pharmacy students will be able to complete one of the six required four-week clinical rotations at Aspetar Hospital.

In 2009 Aspetar and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar signed an agreement that saw Aspetar become a centre for providing academic and clinical training opportunities to WCMC-Q students and promoting medical education in primary care and specific clinical services such as the diagnosis and management of muscular and skeletal disorders. The Peninsula
