Qatar International Food Festival opens

DOHA: H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Chairperson Qatar Museums and Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani opened the seventh Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF) at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park yesterday.

Sheikha Al Mayassa the Minister Chinese Ambassador Li Chen and other guests toured the venue stopping by Live Cooking Theatre to try global lifestyle personality Martha Stewart’s famous juice and witness presentations of special dishes by MIA Food and Beverage Executive Chef Frederique Larquement and Chef Aisha Al Tamimi.

The guests were transported by water taxi to the Pearl-Qatar and the Katara Cultural Village where celebrations at QIFF’s satellite locations kicked off.

The festival offers visitors a wide array of culinary options from 130 restaurants eateries and food entrepreneurs including food outlets from 24 hotels.

Rashed Al Qurese Chief Marketing & Promotions Officer Qatar Tourism Authority said “This year’s Festival is our best yet. Thanks to our co-organisers Qatar Airways (QA) and new strategic partners United Development Company and Katara Cultural Village visitors and residents across the city will be able to join in celebrating a world of flavours.”

Qatar Airways launched its spectacular Dinner in the Sky by welcoming special guests inside its premium lounge to enjoy A Taste of Business Class. Stewart’s cooking debut launched a Live Cooking Theatre programme that will feature celebrity chefs from around the world over the course of the seven-day festival.

Throughout the week-long festival MIA Park will feature signature activities such as Dinner in the Sky by QA QIFF Live Cooking Theatre High Tea by the Bay InstaMarket Health Court BBQ on a Dhow and BBQ on the Bay. A dedicated Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture zone offers visitors Chinese and Qatari delicacies and fusion cuisine.

The Pearl-Qatar adds a new urban feel to the Festival with food trucks from around Qatar and the region. The trucks are stationed at Qanat Quartier where sports competitions and film screenings by Doha Film Institute are held.

At Katara Cultural Village festival-goers can experience popular food from multiple international cultures along the Katara Beach enjoy entertainment and attend sessions at a mini live cooking theatre.

The festival has special hours for school visits between 9.30am to 1pm held in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

QIFF is open to the public from 1pm to 10.30pm until March 28. Fireworks takes place nightly at 8pm.
