Qatar- EMPOWER 2016 concludes

DOHA: The third and final day of Reach Out To Asia’s (ROTA) EMPOWER 2016 youth conference was held yesterday.

ROTA a member of Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development (QF) gave participants an opportunity to tour some of QF’s partner universities including Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q).

Students benefited from the opportunity to practice knowledge and skills they acquired in three days.

Participants also visited Qatar Business Incubation Centre (QBIC) Qatar Scientific Club (QSC) and took part in activities facilitated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Centre.

Essam Heggy Planetary Scientist member of ESA-Nasa ROSETTA mission facilitated the ‘Introduction to formulating Space Mission’ workshop on the second day of EMPOWER 2016.

He said: “What’s important is the fact that EMPOWER takes place annually — it sends out a message that empowering youth is and must be a continuous effort. It’s imperative that we keep youth motivated and engaged.

“Since I was last here in 2012 the conference has grown and become more diversified. It makes me happy to see how enthusiastic the participants are and how they want to use science and technology to do something amazing for their countries — they have a great sense of responsibility.

“EMPOWER 2016 is a fine example of how ROTA and QF are leading the way and propelling youth into the future” he added.

EMPOWER 2016 in its eighth year ended with Sponsors Awards and a closing ceremony which included cultural performances.
