UAE- Sharjah Ruler opens IGFC 2016

by Muhammad Aamir SHARJAH 20th March 2016 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamad Al Qasimi UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah today opened the fifth International Government Communication Forum IGCF 2016 at the Expo Centre Sharjah.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of the National Media Council Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre and other dignitaries More than 3000 prominent world leaders legal experts specialising in government communication public sector officials communication professionals and journalists as well as employees and stakeholders working in the field of government communication are attending the forum which is being held under the theme 'Citizens for Prosperity'. The forum seeks to achieve greater convergence in the relationship between governments and the public to ensure sustainable development.

At the opening ceremony Haitham Youssef Secretary-General of the Jordan-based media body United Arab Media Council UAMC presented the Ruler of Sharjah with accolades after the city of Sharjah was named as the "Capital of the Arab Press" for the year 2016.

This award follows Sharjah's year as "Capital of Arab Tourism" in 2015 as voted by the Arab Council of Tourism Ministers and a year as the "Islamic Culture Capital of the Arab Region" in 2014 as selected by the Islamic Organisation for Education Science and Culture ISESCO.

The International Government Communication Forum is an important global event that convenes decision-makers experts and stakeholders in government communication from around the world. It is a transparent platform for raising important issues and discussing communication-specific trends in order to develop recommendations and resolutions that can help governments and people involved in the field of government communication to enhance their performance and scope of work.

The current edition will deliberate on citizens' perceptions of government communication and the critical role that government communication can play in serving the people through its emphasis on vital life sectors. Experts will highlight specific case studies in these areas to reiterate the forum's status as a reliable global reference for government communications.
