UK's head of state receives disapproval over budget

(MENAFN) British government faced harsh criticism over his budget as opposition emerged from the Conservative party over the proposed USD1.9 billion disability benefit slashes, according to the latest reports.

Accordingly, the rumblings came after think tank the Institute for Fiscal Studies warned that wages and living standards could drop and that the state risked missing its own target of hitting a public finance surplus by 2020.

The budget involved plans for a levy on drinks with more than 5 grams of sugar per 100ml to battle obesity rates, but it faced instant disapproval from the soft drinks industry, which said that it was already taking action to combat obesity.

Based on the previous year's numbers, the United Kingdom is one of the worst countries in Europe for childhood obesity with 28 percent of children aged between two and fifteen overweight or obese.
