Turkey- Puntland officials claim victory over Al Shabaab


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >An official from the East African territory of Puntland has said the self-declared autonomous state – in heavy fighting against the al-Shabaab militant group – has retaken territories on Monday.

“Heavy fighting is still going on in Nugal province which is close to Ethiopian border” according to a diplomat who asked to remain unnamed.

The diplomat claimed that Puntland’s forces were “making progress” and would control the whole area soon.

He said that the al-Shabaab militants had entered the area by boat and by land on Monday.

According to the diplomat Puntland’s President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gas has discussed the situation with Ethiopian and Djiboutian leaders.

Puntland has been a self-declared autonomous state in northeastern Somalia since 1998.
