Lufthansa's net profit surges to USD1.9b in 2015


(MENAFN) Tumbling oil prices sent Lufthansa's profits soaring in 2015, as its gross profit jumped to USD1.9 billion throughout last year, from just USD62 million a year earlier, based on recent reports.

Accordingly, thriving passenger business was also included in its gains last year regardless to the tragic crash of a plane from its subsidiary Germanwings, not to mention a series of crew strikes.

Furthermore, the largest Germany-based airline in Europe witnessed its underlying or operating profit increasing by 55.2pct to USD2.02bn and incomes were up 6.8pct at USD36.1bn.

"2015 was a good year in economic terms, the doubling in the passenger airlines' result is not only due to lower fuel costs, but also to the favorable growths in our passenger volumes," said the carrier's chief.
