With the 2016 Oman Senior Open golf championship to be played on March 19 defending champion Ali Hameed the consecutive two-time winner of the coveted title is gearing up to make it a hat-trick of wins at Ghala Golf Club.

Ali Hameed's two consecutive wins leading to this year's edition makes him the top contender for the trophy.

He took the 2014 crown with a gross score of 77 and then scored 82 in 2015 to keep the trophy.

'Indeed I see a hat-trick coming especially considering how much I have improved my game' a confident Ali Hameed said adding 'But then this is golf anything can happen.'

Sachin Bawa is another key contender who could challenge Ali Hameed having finished runner-up on the last two occasions. Last year he produced a gross score of 83 missing the title by a single stroke while in 2014 he finished second with a gross score of 80.

Ali Hameed who retired from the senior national team last year is all praise for the tournament which is organised by the Oman Golf Committee (OGC) and supported by Bank Muscat and Omanline Institute.

He said 'With this tournament the OGC gives veteran golfers in Oman a scope to showcase their talent. I am excited and I can't wait to join the action.'
