Morocco- Siemens to Build Wind Turbine Blade Factory in Tangier


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Tangier will become home to a new Siemens wind turbine blade factory within two years. The project with an investment cost of 100 million euros will create almost 1200 direct and indirect jobs.

On March 9 the Minister of Industry Commerce Investment and Digital Economy Mr. Moulay Hafid Elalamy the Minister of Energy Mines Water and Environment Mr. Abdelkader Aamara and the CEO of Siemens Wind Power an Renewables Mr. Marcus Tacke signed an agreement concerning a production factory for wind turbine blades.

'It is a pride for us to host one of the most modern and sophisticated factories of Siemens worldwide' declared Mr. Elalamy. He also said that with the plant 'we operate a real increase in value in the renewable energy industry that will provide for the first time blades for wind turbines” Made in Morocco.”

The plant which will mainly produce blades to exported should cover an area of 37.500 square meters in the industrial zone of Tangiers Automotive City about 35 kilometers from the port of Tangier-Med.

According to a report the plant will first produce 63-meter blades made of a composite material. They are considered some of the most voluminous currently produced in the world with this material.

The Tangier plant will be the third Siemens factory in Morocco in the field of renewable energy after Tarfaya wind farm with a capacity of 300 megawatts and the 50-megawatt Haouma park made with the Moroccan partner Nareva.
