By Julia Edwards
WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama willannounce his nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court at 11 am EasternTime (1500 GMT) on Wednesday a source familiar with theselection process told Reuters.
Obama has been searching for a replacement for long-servingconservative Justice Antonin Scalia who died Feb. 13.
Obama is likely to announce either Judge Sri Srinivasan orMerrick Garland as his choice the source told Reuters.
Republicans who control the U.S. Senate have vowed not tohold confirmation hearings or a vote on any nominee picked bythe Democratic president.
Without Scalia the Supreme Court is evenly split with fourliberals and four conservative justices. An Obama appointmentcould tilt the court to the left for the first time in decades.
