UAE- 18 drop in Ajman fatal accidents

Fatal accidents have been reduced by 18 per cent during 2015 compared to 2014 due to continuous awareness campaigns in the emirate.

Col. Ali Humaid Director of Traffic Department and Patrols said that the police is making great efforts in reducing the number of accidents to four per cent this year.

The run over accidents has been reduced by one per cent compare to 102 reported in 2015 and 103 cases have been reported in 2014.

"The number of run-over accidents has been reduced by only one per cent due to the construction of pedestrian bridges and jaywalks in various areas of the emirate despite awareness efforts."

He added that the number of general accidents reported in 2015 reached 41903 with increase of 14 per cent compared to 2014.

Col. Humaid attributed the increase in the number of accidents to the continuous growth of population and rising number of vehicles.

In 2015 89666 vehicles have been registered at Ajman Traffic Department.

He said that anumber of serious and moderate injuries in 2015 was 324 while 2014 recorded 292 casualties. He pointed out that the number of speed violation detected by radars increased by nine per cent.

The police impounded 5052 vehicles for over speeding in 2015 and impounded 4636 vehicles in 2014 with an increase of nine per cent.

A total of 292 licenses were withdrawn in 2015 and a total of 315 vehicles withdrawn in 2014 with a drop of seven per cent.

The Ajman Police are spreading the awareness by distributing publications in various languages to residents and also coordinating with schools to educate the school bus drivers about students' safety.

Police in coordination with municipality achieved a great improvement in roads to reduce accidents and establish pedestrian bridges in vital and crowded areas.

The police also deployed patrols in various parts of the emirate and have reduced the speed limit on roads including Shaikh Zayed Road from 100km to 80km.

The police also launched a free violation day in which the patrol exempts 923 violations during campaigns in 2015 to convey the message of traffic safety for motorists.
