HE Minister of Economy: Qatar Expanded Investment Opportunities


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani said that the investment opportunities in Qatar have never been bigger.

In his speech today before the 11th MEED Qatar Projects Conference, HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani said that Qatar has been witnessing for many years a huge evolutionary movement accompanied by a distinct and rapid growth of the economy in all its components. This growth continued due to the economic diversification strategy adopted by the State of Qatar, which constitute a safety valve for the national economy against the global economy fluctuations, he added.

HE the Minister noted that the diversification strategy reinforced Qatar's capacity to contain the negative effects of the global downturn of energy prices, so that the economy continues to grow in the context of achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims at building a competitive diversified economy. He pointed that the non-oil sector grew at an accelerated pace over the recent years, to contribute 49 percent to the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2014.

He explained that the mission of the Ministry of Economy and Trade goes beyond the implementation and building of global standard projects. The Ministry's mission is represented in establishing a strong and sustainable basis to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030 and to strengthen the country's position in the regional and global economy map.

The state, committed to its development role, has issued laws and regulations which significantly contributed to expediting business start-up procedures, including the new Commercial Companies Law which provides for the abolition of procedures relating to the minimum capital for limited liability companies, and the other laws which contributed to creating an attractive investment environment, he added.

HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani said in his speech that the Ministry is implementing a set o fprogrammes and initiatives that work on reinforcing the role of the private sector in the national economy, adding that it is currently working on reinforcing the principle of partnership between the public and private sectors to support investment and achieve the desired economic diversification.

In this context, the ministry introduced in 2015 the logistics zones projects, with a total area of about 9 million square meters in order to solve the deficit problem facing the domestic market in the logistics and storage fields, he said.

HE the Minister also pointed that the ministry has launched a package of electronic services and smart hones applications that enable investors to easily and conveniently finish many transactions without the need to physically show in the ministry.

He said that the development and modernization process taking place in all axes of development in the State of Qatar has become fruition and made Qatar ranks among the leading world countries in terms of enabling and supportive environment for investment, pointing that the State of Qatar ranked First among Arab countries and 14th globally in the competitiveness report, which said that Qatar is the best in world in terms of easiness of access to loans and second globally in terms of providing a stable macroeconomic environment.

HE the Minister stressed that this conference represents an opportunity to support Qatar's journey towards achieving these goals. He extended thanks to the conference organizers, saying that this event serves as an annual tradition that represents an opportunity to closely look at the most promising investment projects in Qatar.
