Turkey reports high level of unemployment rate

(MENAFN)Turkey's jobless rate grew to a 10-month high of 10.8 percent in December 2015 from 10.5 percent through the prior month, based on recent official data.

As many Syrian refugees are set to join the labor force and Turkey's GDP growth is not fast enough to create sufficient jobs, unemployment rate is anticipated to continue to climb.

The total of unemployed people aged 15 years and over was 3.2 million in December 2015, a significant surge of 59,000 as opposed to the same timeframe of the prior year.

"Our concerns had focused on the negative effect of the refugee crisis and the huge increase in the minimum wage, so we'll see the real negative impacts in 2016 data," said a top expert.
