Consistent Camels 1 determined to stay on top at Qatar Rugby 7s league


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Rugby 7s league captains and coaches with Qatar Rugby Federation officials in Doha yesterday.



Doha: Qatar Rugby Sevens league leaders Camels 1 are determined to hold to the top slot as they head into the second phase of the championship.

Speaking at the mid-season media conference on Monday at the Qatar Olympic Committee headquarters IlIese Rakabu captain of Camels1 said: “We know we are top of the table and that boils down to us playing like a team training together and that’s very important because all our players are from different countries.”

Our idea is to put in our best efforts help each other and review our games. We have got it easy at the moment but the other teams will have a challenge on their hands for second third and fourth” he added.

The media opportunity was also attended by Qatar Rugby Federation (QRF) Senior Coordinator Samuel Rico and seven delegates one from each of the Qatar Rugby Sevens participating teams.

They included captains IRakabu (Camels 1) Talal Mujalli (Camels 2) Jean Barat (Blue Falcons) Syed Asad Ali (CNAQ) and Moses Dorairajah (Lions). The Hurricanes and Al Khor were represented by fitness and conditioning coaches Tim Newnham and Andy Napier respectively.

The captains expressed satisfaction with their teams participation in the first ever Qatar Rugby Sevens and paid tribute to the QRF for its brave initiative. Commenting on the championship league most captains agreed first place in the standings is out of reach but second third and fourth are all up for grabs. The forum was chaired by QRF General Secretary Ali Al Malki who opened proceedings by thanking QRF’s sponsors.

“It is a tremendous feeling to be associated with the likes and professionalism of Aspire and Aspetar. Both have been a supporting backbone to Rugby and in particular the Rugby Sevens League.
