Oman- 27 new centres to avail Tam services

The Information Technology Authority (ITA) in cooperation with ROP on Monday activated Tam services at 27 locations including the civil status centres across the sultanate.

Tam is an electronic certification service provided by the National Digital Certification Center (NDCC) at ITA. 'This service allows citizens and residents to access government services and conduct transactions through ID and SIM cards ensuring a higher level of security while maintaining authenticity integrity and confidentiality.'

A press release stated that users can now access Tam services at any of the 27 locations. This is in addition to those at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry branches in Muscat Sohar Nizwa Ibra and Musandam Ministry of Manpower Sanad Service Office by Al Raffd Fund in Salalah as well as Muscat City Centre. 'Users of the Internet interested in applying for government services need Tam to prove and authenticate their digital identity.'

Dr Salim Sultan al Ruzaiqi CEO of ITA said 'We believe that the public is receptive to the new service. It represents the first step in our endeavour for electronic services in Oman to protect users' information online not to mention the great benefits of this service in developing economic social educational and service-based sectors.'

ITA is conducting a campaign to encourage all Omanis holding ID cards with expiry date of July 14 2018 onwards and expatriates issued residence cards after July 15 2015 onwards to activate them at any of the 27 locations.

Tam services are protected by the Oman eTransaction Law which provides citizens and residents the level of trust needed to handle transactions in a way that provides the same legality like regular transactions based on hand written signature and physical existence of the user.

Government entities have already started to offer their services based on Tam services making full use of the benefits provided by Tam. Government portals and entities using Tam-enabled services include but not limited to Oman portal for government eServices One Stop Shop of the Invest Easy project Muscat Municipality Ministry of Manpower Ministry of Health Public Prosecution Al Raffd Fund the National Centre for Statistics and Information Public Authority for Social Insurance and Bank Dhofar.
