UAE- FNC Speaker receives AIPU Secretary General

ABU DHABI 15th March 2016 (WAM) -- Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi Speaker of Federal National Council FNC has received at the Council's headquarters in Abu Dhabi Fayez Al Shawabkeh Secretary-General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union AIPU in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrouei Secretary-General of the Council.

At the beginning of the meeting Dr. Al Qubaisi congratulated Al Shawabkeh on the occasion of his election as Secretary-General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and wished him success in his new mission.

She stressed the importance of the role in the development of the Secretariat of the AIPU and the activation of its mechanisms of action to achieve its objectives to strengthening Arab parliamentary cooperation to achieve Arab solidarity and to express the aspirations of the Arab people and their issues.

During the meeting they also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the FNC and the AIPU especially with the imminent convening of the Assembly's meetings of the 134th Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in March in Lusaka the capital of Zambia and the 23rd Conference of the Union to be held in the Egyptian capital Cairo next April.

Dr. Al Qubaisi said that the role of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union has today become very important because of the events and challenges facing the Arab nation which threatens security of Arab people and the peace of communities stressing the need to work on the establishment of joint parliamentary activities to coordinate Arab efforts in various areas of solidarity and dialogue on Arab cooperation.

Fayez Al Shawabkeh in turn congratulated Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi on the occasion of her election to the presidency of the Federal National Council and said that her presidency of the legislature is an asset to all Arab countries and it is the sincere expression of the UAE leadership and people's respect for women. He praised her prominent and active role in the previous legislative chapters being the first Emirati woman elected to participate in the UAE's parliamentary work saying that she has been able to prove her success and efficiency in the process of parliamentary action.

He stressed that the Secretariat is ready to work closely with Arab parliaments to serve the Arab people and that it would welcome any initiatives or proposals contributing to the development work of the Secretariat for the benefit of activating the Arab Parliamentary work raising the performance of the Union and strengthening its regional and international role.
