A five-star hotel security officer denied in court on Sunday the charge of insulting and behaving in contempt of Christianity in a clip that was taken in a Christmas party last year.

The 47-year-old Emirati accused also denied in the Court of First Instance the charge of committing an indecent public act.

According to prosecution records the defendant insulted the religion in a clip taken in a Christmas party last year in which he allegedly gestured indecently while sending the greetings verbally.

Two managers including an Egyptian 37 and a Sudanese 44 denied the charge of breaching his privacy by filming and sending the clip to others on social media. It is believed the clip went viral after the two managers shared it with others online. The pair also denied the charge of holding contempt to a religion by sharing the clip.

The incident was reported to the Bur Dubai police station on December 29 after the Emirati complained against the Egyptian accusing him of sharing his private clip with others.

A police lieutenant who interrogated the Emirati quoted him as complaining about how he felt embarrassed after the clip was filmed at a party in the hotel and shared online. "He recounted that he was joking as he took the microphone and greeted saying that they (Christians) will go to hell."

The next hearing has been scheduled for March 27.
