UAE says warplane missing in Yemen

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >The United Arab Emirates announced Monday that one of its fighter jets participating in a Saudi-led coalition against Yemen’s Shia Houthi group has gone missing.

This is the first time an Emirati warplane from the coalition goes missing since Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies began pounding Houthi positions in Yemen in March 2015.

The UAE has 30 warplanes participating in the anti-Houthi campaign only second to Saudi Arabia which has 100 planes.

Yemen has remained in turmoil since September 2014 when the Houthis and allied forces of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh overran capital Sanaa and other parts of the country forcing President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and his government to flee to Saudi Arabia.

According to the UN more than 6000 people have been killed in Yemen -- about half of them civilians -- since the Saudi-led coalition first began its air campaign.
