UAE- Pink Shawarma raises Dh 51000 to support Pink Caravan

The "Pink Bite" event raised Dh 51000 during a charity auction held to raise funds for the Pink Caravan. The event was organised by the Pink Caravan on Friday (Friday) at Galeries Lafayette in Dubai Mall. The amount which equates to the cost of five chemotherapy sessions entirely went to the Pink Caravan.

The fundraising event was held in support of the Pink Caravan's mission of spreading the message about breast cancer and offering free screenings for people across the UAE.

Pink Caravan ambassadors and prominent media persons took part in the event. They included Saoud Al Kaabi Pink Caravan ambassador artist Faisal Al Jassim and social media activist Mohannad Al Hassoun. Saoud's team was supervised by Chef Russell Impiazzi Culinary Director Food and Beverage at Galeries Lafayette Lafayette Gourmet in The Dubai Mall.

TV presenter Amira Al Fadl also participated along with her team consisting of Pink Caravan ambassador and fitness expert and Chef Zena Habi singer Nadia Al Mansouri and Pink Caravan ambassador Vian Shawani. The international Chef Tony Kitous founder of the restaurant Comptoir Libanais in London supervised Amira's team.

The Pink Bite auction was attended by Ameera BinKaram Founding Member and President of the Board of Directors of Friends of Cancer Patients society (FOCP) Chairperson of the Pink Caravan's Higher Steering Committee Dr. Sawsan Al Madhi Director-General of FoCP and head of the Pink Caravan Medical and Awareness Committee Reem BinKaram Head of the Pink Caravan Event Committee and a number of prominent media figures artists and dignitaries.

The "Pink Shawarma" meals were prepared by the two teams led by TV presenters Saoud Al Kaabi and Amira Al Fadl amid an atmosphere of great enthusiasm and excitement. The "Pink Shawarma" meals were sold to Galeries Lafayette's visitors.

During the auction the team of Saoud Al Kaabi successfully raised Dh 28090 while Amira Al Fadl's team managed to collect Dh 23 206. Auction's revenues went all to the Pink Caravan.

On the sidelines of the event which saw an overwhelming turnout and impressive interaction by the restaurant's visitors Chef Tony Kitous has had his hand goldenly 3D imprinted. Kitous donated eight of his cooking books to the Pink Caravan to be auctioned upon as well he has pledged four luxury food groups; each of them is equivalent to a meal for 10 people. The meals will be prepared at his famous restaurant Comptoir Libanais in London and the proceeds from this sale will go to the Pink Caravan.

In recognition of his efforts Chef Russell Impiazzi also had his had goldenly 3D imprinted in the Pink Bite event. The event also featured golden hands galleria of Pink Caravan ambassadors.

Reem BinKaram Head of the Events Committee said "Since its inception in 2011 the Pink Caravan ambassadors have made considerable efforts to draw the attention of thousands of people from various segments of the society to the importance of early detection of breast cancer capitalizing on their strong influence and charisma as prominent community stars."

BinKaram thanked Pink Caravan ambassadors who took part in the event for their great enthusiasm and interaction with the audience making it a success. She also thanked The Dubai Mall's Galeries Lafayette for hosting the event which reflected their belief in social responsibility and also all those who participated supported and contributed to the success of the charity auction.

Russell Impiazzi Culinary Director of Lafayette Gourmet at Galeries Lafayette The Dubai Mall said: "We are proud of this great confidence bestowed on us by the Pink Caravan to host this event for the second year. It was a major success thanks to the Pink Caravan's Higher Steering Committee for giving us this opportunity to be part of its mission of spreading awareness about breast cancer."

Speaking about his participation in the event Tony Kitous said "I am delighted and honored to be part of this event Pink Caravan the leading breast cancer awareness initiative. I enjoyed the amazing and fun time with Pink Caravan's wonderful ambassadors and the enthusiastic audience contributing together to collect the amount."

He added: "Cancer awareness is one of the most serious causes that anybody should participate in its events. Cancer is here cancer is real cancer is happening. I myself lost my cousin who died of cancer at the age of 20 and my mother two aunts and grandfather who also died of cancer. I also lost one of my best friends with cancer. I think with all the research and the wonderful work the Pink Caravan is doing it is very important to be all behind this kind of work which helps save lives improve lives and support families.

The "Pink Bite" auction was a major success last year when a pink burger was prepared. It raised Dh 25960 ($7000) breaking the record for the highest price paid for a burger. The amount was donated to the Pink Caravan.
