Qatar- Students of nine schools donate 7.5 tonnes of food


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Donated food items are being packaged for the needy people in Qatar.

DOHA: Students of nine Independent schools have donated 7.5 tonnes of basic food items to support needy people in Qatar.

The donations were collected over two weeks under a charity programme organised by the Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in schools.

The programme entitled ‘Madaris Shakira’ (Thankful Schools) was held by RAF’s arm Qatari Food House (QFH) to collect basic food items from schools to support needy families and individuals in the country.

Nine schools took part in phase one of the initiative — Umm Ayman Secondary School for Girls; Umm Al Amad Primary School for Girls; Abu Hanifa Model Primary School for Boys; Safiya bint Abdul Mutalib Kindergarten for Girls; Amina bint Wahab Preparatory School for Girls; Umm Al Qura Model School for Boys; Al Risala Secondary School for Girls; Uthman bin Affan Model School for Boys; and Rawdat Al Rashid Primary- Preparatory School for Girls.

The programmes are being held in school campuses. Students are being introduced to the objectives of the initiative and the rules of participation. They are also told what types of foodstuff could be donated.

QFH received the donations. After checking the expiry dates and other food specifications the items are taken for repackaging and distribution to needy people.

The main purpose of the initiative is to promote generosity and the culture of philanthropy among the young generation so that they will come forward to help the weaker sections of the community in need RAF said in a statement.The Peninsula
