Kuwait- Bahrain's FM warns of interference in Arabs' internal affairs


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO March 10 (KUNA) -- Bahrain's Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmad Al-Khalifa on Thursday warned against "regional interference" in the internal affairs of the Arab countries.Addressing the opening of the 145th session of the Arab League Council Sheikh Khaled reiterated rejection of Iran's interference in the internal affairs of the Arab World as well as Tehran's support to terrorists fueling sectarian strife through the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and "the terrorist Hezbollah." Iran does not respect the policy of good neighborliness nor international norms the minister said demanding Tehran to stop such practices and change its policy to maintain security in the region.The head of the Arab foreign ministers' 145th session urged the UNSC to assume its legal responsibilities to provide international protection for the Palestinian people and to work for an end to the Israeli occupation.Sheikh Khaled reaffirmed Bahrain's support to the UAE's efforts to end Iran's occupation of the country's three islands Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs calling for settling the issue through direct negotiations or the International Court of Justice.In the meantime he warned against aggravation of the five-year old Syrian crisis reaffirming keenness on the country's unity and territorial integrity. Sheikh Khalid held the UNSC responsible for dissolving the crisis with its hazardous repercussions on the entire region. By the same token the minister voiced support to Yemen's legitimate president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi against the terrorist groups backed by Iran urging the international community to intensify efforts to dissolve the crisis in the country.On Iraq Sheikh Khaled underlined the necessity of enhancing national partnerships among the Iraqi parties in the war against terrorist groups especially the so-called Islamic State (IS).He expressed hope that a national unity government be formed in Libya urging further international efforts to restore security and stability to the country.The political and security risks surrounding the region have to be given due attention the Bahraini chief diplomat said calling for promoting mechanisms of the Arab economic summit in the wake of the falls of oil prices.Sheikh Khaled said the agenda of the session comprises crucial topics closely related to the Arab interests and joint action. He stressed the need to reform the Arab League and develop its mechanisms amid the threats facing the Arab nation.For his part Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Araby told the session that the current challenges necessitate a serious stance and a comprehensive review of the Arab joint action as well as the League's relevant role.In his "last" statement as the Arab League chief Al-Arabi reviewed a report on his efforts in office over the past five years.The Arab League is a reflection of the Arab state he said adding that lack of a political will is the major obstacle for the League to play due role.He noted that the Arab nation is at a crossroad which requires reviewing the League's Charter to cope with present challenges.
