Oman- Local Round Up: OTA celebrates World Tennis Day

The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) celebrated the World Tennis Day with a host of activities for kids at Oman Avenues Mall on Tuesday.

The World Tennis Day is celebrated with the goal of promoting the sport and increasing tennis participation among young players around the globe. Launched on March 4 2013 the event has seen over the past couple of years an increase in the number of countries taking part with 2016 expected to cover nearly 90 nations.

Mutassim al Zadjali the OTA chairman said 'The World Tennis Day is a unique opportunity to promote the accessibility of the sport and inspire kids and families to lead healthy lifestyles.'

The OTA chief was delighted at the response and said the OTA will hold such events in different regions every three months. Salman al Balushi the OTA's executive manager said 'This special celebration at the Oman Avenues Mall is part of the OTA's commitment to create opportunities for kids to engage in the sport and increase participation in local programmes.'

Mini tennis players boys and girls from public and private schools Nizwa Club participated in the event and got the chance to interact with national junior team players and OTA coaches.

Enhance Muscat record victories

Noorul Riaz's unbeaten 40 helped Enhance CT defeat Al Turki by five wickets in an Oman Cricket Premier division Twenty20 match that was played at Al Amerat recently.

In an earlier match between Muscat CT and Al Turki Swapnil Khade's 61-run knock and Aman Sharma's three for 26 guided Muscat CT to a sevenrun win.

Brief scores: Al Turki 105-8 in 20 overs (Ananya Sen 2-5) lost to Enhance CT 108-5 in 18.3 overs (Noorul Riaz 40 n.o; Rahul Singh 3-24).

Muscat CT 165-7 in 20 overs (Khade 61; Jay Viram 2-21 Rahul Singh 2-23) beat Al Turki 158-8 in 20 overs (Sharma 3-26).

Oman Senior Open to be held on March 19 The 12th Oman Senior Open will be held at Ghala Golf Club on March 19 according to a press release from the Oman Golf Committee.

Players of the age of 50 years or above are eligible to take part in the tournament and the field has been restricted to 100 golfers.

The tournament is open for all Omani nationals and expatriates and the last date for registration is March 13.

MCCC competition to start on March 16

The fifth MCCC Maxtalent Cup cricket tournament to be organised by Muscat Cricket Coaching Centre (MCCC) will be played at Al Amerat from March 16-27.

Teams from schools and academies are eligible to take part in the event which will feature Twenty20 games in age categories of U11 U13 and U16.
