GCC Moroccan Jordan FMs reject Iran's interference in internal affairs


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) (With POL-LD SAUDI-GCC-MEETING) RIYADH March 9 (KUNA) -- Foreign Ministers of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Morocco and Jordan on Wednesday rejected Iran's interference in the internal affairs of the GCC states and the regions.
A final communique issued at the end of a meeting that brought together the chief diplomats of the eight countries in Riyadh today reiterated the UAE's sovereignty over its three islands of Greater Tunb Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa and stressed that "any practices or actions taken by Iran over the three islands are null and void." The ministers renewed their call for Iran to respond to efforts exerted by the UAE to resolve the issue through direct negotiations or referring to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
During their fifth joint ministerial meeting the ministers voiced "strong condemnation of the attacks on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and the Saudi Consulate in the Iranian city of Mash-had." They held the Iranian authorities fully responsible for these "acts of terrorism" in line with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963.
Meanwhile they stressed the necessity of implementing the nuclear deal concluded by Iran and the world powers in Vienna last year.
On Yemen the communique underlined the importance of concluding a political solution to the crisis in there in line with the GCC Initiative and its Implementing Mechanism the outcome of the Yemeni National Dialogue and the Riyadh Conference held last May. They also called for the unconditioned implementation of the UNSC Resolution 2216.
They lauded the victories realized by the popular resistant and the pro-legitimacy forces against the Houthi and Saleh militias.
In addition the ministers reaffirmed support to the legitimate government for recovering the state and restoring security and stability to all Yemeni provinces stressing full commitment to Yemen's unity territorial integrity and independence and rejecting any interference in the internal affairs of the country.
In the meantime the ministers underscored the need to deal firmly with the dangerous phenomenon of terrorism and terrorist movements.
They reiterated commitment to fight deviant and extremist thinking adopted by terrorist groups to distort the image of Islam.
They also praised Saudi Arabia's initiative to form an Islamic military alliance to fight terrorism and extremism.
On Palestine the GCC Moroccan and Jordanian Foreign Ministers voiced determination to provide due support for concluding a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian Cause.
They condemned the continuation of building settlements and the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories as well as the measures to alter the Arab and Muslim identity of Al-Quds Al-Shareef besides the arbitrary detentions and collective punishment of Palestinians.
The final communiqu© urged the international community to assume its responsibilities taking the necessary steps to provide due protection to the Palestinian people and their religious shrines.
It noted that all settlements built on the occupied Palestinian territories are "illegitimate" according to the International Law and constitute an obstacle of peace.
A comprehensive and everlasting solution must be based on the pre-June 1967 borders the ministers stressed.
On Syria they stressed that the UNSC should assume its full responsibilities toward the Syrian crisis.
They hoped that the UN-sponsored negotiations would lead to a political solution to the Syrian crisis reiterating unwavering stance on maintaining the country's unity stability and territorial integrity.
The ministerial meeting welcomed the UNSC Resolution 2254 which offers a roadmap for dissolving the crisis based on the outcome of the Geneva I conference on Syria held in June 2012.
By the same token the ministers urged the international community to support the Syrian refugees activating the principle of burden-sharing.
The meeting welcomed the outcome of the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria Kuwait hosted last year and the fourth one held in London last month.
Referring to Libya the ministers welcomed the announcement of the Libyan Presidential Council on reaching an agreement for forming a unity government to be chaired by Fayez Al-Sarraj.
They lauded Morocco's efforts bringing the Libyan parties together for the historical Al-Sukheirat agreement and voiced full support to the legitimate Libyan government.
Calling for the implementation of the UNSC Resolution 2174 (2014) on Libya the ministers in the meantime expressed grave concern over the escalation of armed operations and violence in the country committed by terrorist groups that threaten security and stability not only there but in neighboring states as well.
On Iraq the Riyadh meeting underlined that the political process in the country must be comprehensive including all components of the Iraqi people.
They also underlined respect to Iraq's unity sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Kuwaiti delegation to the meeting was led by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah attended the meeting. (pickup previous) yms.msa
