Qatar- GCC Chief Meets EU representative for Middle East Peace Process

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Riyadh March 08 (QNA) -The GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani met here Tuesday with the European Union's Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Fernando Gentilini.

Discussions during the meeting dealt with joint cooperation and coordination between the GCC and the EU as well as political and security situation in the and efforts being made to revive the peace process in the Middle East.

Al Zayani stressed the need that the international community should move to compel Israel recognize the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their national soil with East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with the Arab peace initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.

He confirmed the necessity for ending Israel's occupation and policy of settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories land confiscation building of illegal settlements and putting an end to the Israeli systematic violations of Palestinian people's human rights noting that a just and lasting peace in the region would only be achieved with the complete withdrawal from the territories which Israel occupied in 1967.(QNA)
