ABU DHABI 9th March 2016 (WAM) -- The UAE used the occasion of US Vice-President Joe Biden's visit to the country to emphasise its steadfast support for the fight against Daesh. Biden spoke of America's determination to take the fight to Daesh to reclaim territory and destroy their financial assets.

In an editorial published today the Dubai-based daily newspaper Gulf News said that Biden's visit to the UAE coincides with a new coalition advance to encircle Daesh forces in Iraq's second city of Mosul and follows Defence Secretary Ashton Carter's announcement earlier this week that US forces are in action in Mosul and are preparing with their allies to eliminate all Daesh forces in the city.

"The UAE has been a committed partner in the fight against Daesh and has sent its air force to fight in both Iraq and Syria as part of the international coalition against terror. Therefore it is important that the UAE has been able to use Biden's visit to outline its ideas on both - how to take the fight forward in the region to defeat Daesh and also to work to support the rule of law and stable governance" it said.

During his visit the US Vice-President met Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. "Such senior interactions between the leadership of both countries ensure that the close allies maintain effective contact on how to tackle the many interlinked issues that affect the Arab world at the present" concluded the editorial.
