UAE- Emirati family evacuated as rains wreak havoc in Fujairah

An Emirati family of ten members whose fence of their house was badly damaged have been evacuated from their home due to the thunderstorm and moderate to heavy rains that lashed the east coast cities and districts on Wednesday late night

They were sheltered in a hotel at Mirbih neighborhood of Fujairah.

Some houses were badly damaged and more than 150 heads of sheep were killed when they were swept away by the torrent water. A labor compound of a private company at Mirbih neighborhood was also flooded and swept away by the fast running water causing material damages in the contents and the motor vehicles but no human casualties were reported.

Community Police at Fujairah Police department in collaboration with Fujairah Charity association had managed to evacuate the Emirati family and put them in a hotel at Mirbih neighborhood after the fence of their house at Al Qiriyya district was collapsed and the compound was inundated with water.

The accumulation of rainwater resulted in the closure of Fujairah-Khorfakkan Highway for 45 minutes before the traffic. Open spaces squares main and artillery roads and roundabouts in some areas and towns were clogged with water bringing traffic to a standstill.

Midha Dam In Oman which adjacent to the UAE was filled beyond its capacity and the fast running water as well as the overflow of valleys and gorges had compounded the problem of the affected areas in the country ( UAE).

Fujairah Police intensified its traffic patrols in streets and roads to facilitate the smooth flow of the traffic and to avoid traffic gridlocks as no road accidents were reported.

Municipalities in the east coast and the department of public works and agriculture in Fujairah had dispatched their machinery and trucks to pump out the accumulated water from streets roundabouts and weather pundits forecast more rains as the sky is heavily overcast.

Brigadier Mohammed Rashid bin Nayaa deputy commander in chief of Fujairah Police said his department had not monitored any human casualties except the collapse of a fence of an Emirati family house of 10 members at Al Qiraiya neighborhood.

' Community Police and in collaboration with Fujairah Charity Association had provided a hotel apartment at a hotel at nearby Mirbiah for the family" he said adding some shelters were made ready in anticipation of any unpredictable incidents or eventualities" he said.

Fujairah Police Department he said had closed Fujairah- Khorfakkan highway specifically the area runs parallels Mirbiah and Gadfa neighborhoods and that was made in not more than 45 minutes before it re-opened before the traffic which runs smoothly thereafter.

" A helicopter has been designated to the task force from the ministry of environment and climate change to conduct reconnaissance and keep watch the condition of the dams and valleys in the areas which experienced the heavy rains of which are Safad dam to find out its capacity of taking in and absorbing the accumulated waters) he said.

"There were no traffic accidents during the fall of rain and some valleys with fast running water cascading from Madha neighboring Mirbih and Gadfa neighborhoods had caused the flooding of the two districts for they lie in the fore of the two valleys" he elaborated.

Fujairah Police and Civil defense departments urged the public to stay away from the courses of the valleys for the safety of their lives.

Weather forecast:It'll be cloudy and windy today and tomorrow

Cloudy weather conditions are expected to continue today but no rain clouds are expected the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology has said.

Fair to partly cloudy weather will prevail on Friday in general with an increase in temperatures. Light to moderate winds are also expected. The relative humidity will increase during the night and early morning.

The clouds will increase over the western areas by late night on Saturday which may be associated with rains and fresh winds.
