JAKARTA 7th March 2016 (WAM) -- The United Arab Emirates has participated in the 5th Extraordinary Islamic Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Shareef being held under the theme "United for Just Solution" in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

The UAE delegation was led by Dr. Maytha bint Salem Al Shamsi Minister of State with the membership of Ahmed Abdullah Al-Musalli UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi Deputy Director of the International Organisation's Department at the Foreign Ministry and Dr. Khalid Al Mulla Ahmad Al Sharhan and Mahmoud Hashemi from the UAE Foreign Ministry.

Dr. Al Shamsi in a speech made on behalf of the UAE confirmed that the Palestinian issue is the first Islamic issue and its continuation without a just solution generates more complications and attracts the forces of extremism and terrorism in the Muslim world.

She called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards what has been committed by Israel in order to change the legal status in Al-Quds Al-Sharif and the suffering of the Palestinian people from "the heinous attacks".

Dr. Al Shamsi said that the UAE believes that the resolution of the Palestinian issue can only come by ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands and the establishment of an independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the 4th June 1967 lines.

The meeting also discussed the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories Israeli violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque Israeli settlements and the attempts to blur the identity of the city of Jerusalem.

The summit concluded with the adoption of the "Jakarta Declaration" and a Resolution on the Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif's issue where the declaration renewed the emphasis on full support for the Palestinian Unity Government.
