Oman- No big names at MIFF this year festival to last only five days

The ninth Muscat International Film Festival (MIFF) will not be as glamorous as its earlier editions.

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan will not attend it either contrary to claims by a local publication. Film lovers are in for more bad newsthe festival will be held only for five days this year. Past editions of the festival were held over seven to eight days.

A senior official from the Oman Film Society (OFS) said 'Shah Rukh Khan will not be the special guest for the ninth edition of the Muscat International Film Festival. We have also reduced the number of days. The festival will be held from March 21 to 25.' Earlier it was scheduled to be held from March 21-27. Organised by OFS the event usually hosts celebrities screens global movies and has several workshops led by experts.

The OFS building is booked for other events soon after the film festival the official said. 'We have also changed the locations for the screening of films. Last time we screened at City Cinema in Shatti and MGM. This year we will screen only the first film at City Cinema. The rest will be screened at our building' the official said.

Sudhin Kumar a film enthusiast said 'This is bad news. We just have one major film festival in Oman and it is biennial. I was excited upon hearing that some big names from India and Hollywood would be attending. Also the venue is quite far from where I live. I don't think I will attend MIFF this year.' However the official assured that the festival will not compromise on the quality of films to be screened. Some big names from the Arab world will be attending the event he said.
