Cameras to assess Dubai cabbies' driving style

Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) has installed cameras in taxis aimed at tracking the performance of its drivers. Rear and front cameras in taxis will be used to assess cabbies' driving style and identify and analyse reasons of accidents.

The DTC has also introduced drivers incentive programme where the best cabdrivers are rewarded on the basis of some parameters: Accidents complaints and offences using the 'Service Star Prize' where the winner will be rewarded with a car besides honouring drivers who have completed more than 10 years of service.

Meanwhile corporation has announced that taxis in Dubai made 47 million trips in 2015 lifting a whooping 94 million riders.

On Saturday Mattar Al Tayer Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said that total operating revenues of the DTC reached Dh 1.48 billion in 2015 compared to Dh1.31 billion in 2014.

The RTA chief stated that the DTC has carried out about 47 million trips in 2015 at an average of 129000 trips per day compared to 46 million trips recorded in 2014.

The total profits posted by the DTC last year amounted to Dh280 million compared to Dh270 million last year.

Increase in fleet

The DTC has launched several initiatives including beefing up DTC's fleet by adding 420 new vehicles bringing the total number of vehicles to 4673 including 350 vehicles dedicated for Dubai and Al Maktoum International Airports 113 for VIP service 100 for ladies 3 for Hatta city service 385 for Hala Taxi service and 3722 vehicles for the standard commission taxi.

"The DTC has completed a project for improving the interiors of VIP vehicles besides installing sensors in all fleet vehicles supplied by car dealers rendering sensors part of the standard vehicle specifications" he added.

The DTC has also enabled fare payment via credit cards and NoL cards and has automated maintenance operations to improve the efficiency and reducing the number of vehicles in workshops.

Smart Training The RTA attaches special attention to the training and qualifying of drivers with a view to uplifting traffic awareness level in delivering taxi services which will accordingly contribute to improving passenger services in a bid to make them happier.

In this regard the RTA has opened the Drivers Qualification Center at Al Ruwaiyah; the first smart training center dedicated to training taxi drivers of franchise companies and on-call taxi drivers of deluxe limo service in Dubai.

The Center which is supervised by Drivers Affairs Department at Public Transport Agency is fitted with smart touch-screens characterized by high-definition educative material & visual display internet accessibility and a direct interaction with the educational material.
