Qatar- Algeria President Meets UN Secretary General


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Algiers March 06 (QNA) - President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika met here Sunday with the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who is on a visit to Algeria.

Earlier today Ki-moon met with Algeria's Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra where they discussed the UN-Algeria relations in addition to regional and international issues most importantly the situation in Libya.

At a press conference following his meeting with Lamamra the UN Secretary-General underlined the importance of comprehensive dialogue for resolving crises pointing out that any military solution would worsen the situation.

On Libya Ki-moon called on all stakeholders focus on the future of the country rather than their own interests expressing hope for inaugurating the national unity government as soon as possible.

"There is alarming information coming from Libya about grave acts that could amount to war crimes" Ban warned saying that all external actors need to use their influence to appease the situation. "If things don't improve on the political front the humanitarian crisis will worsen and threats to people's security including attacks by ISIS will multiply and expand" he added. (QNA)
