The 33-year-old woman her Irish boyfriend and two friends had decided to try the slope after seeing other skiers taking the route in the Axamer Lizum ski area.

But when the group went down the very steep gully as well an avalanche hit three of them and carried them down some 150 metres.

While the man and one of the women survived the Spanish woman was completely buried under the masses of snow.
She was found and dug out within 10 minutes. Rescuers failed to resuscitate the woman who had been living in Innsbruck.

The Tyrolean avalanche monitoring service had issued a bulletin that warned of considerable risks in high-altitude gullies like the one in Axamer Lizum.
