The Dubai Police have launched the first all-woman squad to guard the emirate's markets.

The General Department of Organisations Protective Security and Emergency of Dubai Police is planning to deploy the all women squad patrols across the emirate's markets in order to rein in theft and fraud.

The decision in this regard has been taken after considering the situations inside the local markets and reviewing the problems and nature of the society. The presence of the squad will avoid embarrassment to the parties while dealing with issues involving women.

The squad members are selected from policewomen appointed at various police stations who have ample experience in protecting VIPs and guarding the convicts. They are trained continuously to gain more experience through workshops and courses.

One of the mandatory conditions for those willing to join the squad is to master English as well as Arabic languages since most members of the society speak either of these languages.

Initially two policewomen have been deployed in Deira Gold Souq. This will be followed by deploying two more policewomen in Bur Dubai near Al Fahidi Street.

The squad will deal with all the cases and is equipped with tools and communication devices to face any situation.

The squad will not be at work at night as most of the female shoppers visit the markets during the daytime.
