UAE- Dewa honours 39 Emirati students

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer has honoured 39 high-performing Emirati students from Dewa's scholarship programme. The move is designed to support the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to support and develop the skills of talented young Emiratis.

The award ceremony was also attended by Dr Yousef Al Akraf Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at Dewa and other officials as well as by the students and their families.

In his remarks Al Tayer praised the students for their strong academic performances and urged them to continue to enhance their skills for the benefit of the UAE.

"We have many training programmes for Emirati students to complete their studies in the energy sector in the UAE or abroad. Our objective is to create a generation of Emiratis capable of leading the different aspects of the energy sector contribute to developing a generation that realises the role of professional work" he said.

"In achieving sustainable development and create quality jobs that benefit both the citizen and the country. These efforts support our role as a socially-responsible organisation."

Dewa has established relationships with a number of local and regional universities and instates to help prepare Emirati students for engineering jobs with Dewa.

The annual scholarship programme includes bachelors' degrees in Electrical & Mechanical engineering in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates University for 20 students; Intilaq Programme which offers Mechanical and Electrical engineering for 60 students; Electrical Engineering at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai (Dubai Men's College) for 20 students and an overseas programme offered for ten students to get a bachelor's degree in renewable energy.
