Qatar- Two day entrepreneurship forum opens tomorrow

DOHA: Prominent business leaders and leading academicians from the region and the world are expected to exchange ideas and vital concerns as well as the latest information on entrepreneurship during the third edition of the ‘Entrepreneurship in Economic Development Forum’ which opens tomorrow.

Organised by Qatar University (QU) and Qatar Development Bank (QDB) the two-day event will take place under the patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani at the Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Hotel.

“The importance of this Forum is highlighted by the presence of high-calibre experts and decision makers in the field of entrepreneurship and there is no doubt that the government’s support to this important and vital sector is a key element in achieving the development of the entrepreneurial system in the state and activating it.” said Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa (pictured) CEO of Qatar Development Bank (QDB). “And at QDB we are proud of the leadership role that we are playing to provide key services to this sector in general and to Qatari entrepreneurs in particular.”

“The academic community whilst presenting its theoretical expertise on entrepreneurship is very much in touch with the realities of everyday business and governmental operations through exchanges of information and insights with the key business leaders and government officials” said Dr Nitham Hindi Dean of the College of Business and Economics at QU. “It is through platforms such as this Forum that deeper knowledge and understanding about entrepreneurship is shared which in turn facilitates the crafting of academic programmes that meet the requirement of a fast-changing business and economic environment. “We in the academic community look forward to having continuous and constant dialogue amongst all stakeholders in order to keep students up-to-date with the current trends on entrepreneurship.”

Other speakers from both the public and private sectors as well as the academe are Kabalan Abisaab the Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador to Qatar and Kaleem Mohammed Al Yaqoobi Founder and CEO of GEE from Oman who will both provide their insights in the panel discussion of on ‘Government Intervention with SME’s and Entrepreneurs’ to be conducted on the first day of the Forum.

To kick off the second day of the event Mohammed Jaffar Founder of the E-Commerce business “Talabat.com” from Kuwait will reveal some secrets to his success in Q&A format session on ‘Success Story: How Did I Do It’. Founded in 2004 as a Kuwait-based online food delivery service it has since grown into one of the largest companies in the region covering Oman the UAE Kuwait KSA Qatar and Bahrain. The site operates with over 1300 restaurants including major brands like Burger King KFC Johnny Rocket’s Hardees TGI Fridays and Subway. Due to its phenomenal success the company was purchased by the German ecommerce group Rocket Internet for $170m in 2015.The Peninsula
