Qatar- State of the art Ooredoo Cancer Awareness Centre to open soon


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The centre on the 18th and 19th floors of Barwa Towers in Al Sadd is in the final stage of completion.

DOHA: The Ooredoo Cancer Awareness Centre is in the final stage of completion and will open soon said Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani Chairman Qatar Cancer Society (QCS). The state-of-the-art facility is on the 18th and 19th floors of Barwa Towers in Al Sadd and will be used as training facilities.

“We will announce the opening dates soon” said Dr Sheikh Khalid.

The QR20m project is financially supported by Ooredoo according to a partnership signed in May 2014 with QCS.

“The centre will implement an awareness strategy to help change the mindset of the people about cancer and reduce the stigma associated with the disease.

“It will also help increase the quality of life by increasing awareness about healthy and safe lifestyle to prevent cancer” he said.

“The centre aims to educate people in different segments of society. There are programmes for physicians and paramedical staff and another to support the public which we aim to make the biggest.

“The programme aims to train people on how to deal with patients diagnosed with cancer or those already suffering from it to provide psychological support for them during the phases of treatment” he said.

The centre has a lecture hall to accommodate more than 100 people and is equipped with multimedia and telecommunications facilities. It also has audio-visual aids.

A small lecture hall can accommodate 50 people and the seminar room can be used by 20 to 30 people. The room is furnished with a large central table to facilitate lectures and group discussions.

The centre also has a workshop classroom for classes for special demonstrations. A kids classroom has some 20-30 chairs and five tables painted in attractive colours suitable for children aged six and 12 years.

The meeting and VIP Hall can accommodate 22 guests and is fully equipped to host official meetings and video and press conferences.

The electronic library at the centre will establish links with university and school students. It contains journals textbooks and databases. The librarian will assist students in learning how to retrieve the best evidence from the vast scientific literature distinguish the appropriate resources to answer clinical and research questions and obtain and organise literature for future use.
