US trade deficit grows in Jan

(MENAFN) The US trade shortage increased more than predicted in Jan as exports dropped more than imports among a slowing global economy.

Furthermore, the trade gap grew 2.2 percent to USD 45.7bn in Jan, more than estimated at USD 44.0bn, reflecting the slowness in the global eco.

However, exports of goods and services dropped 2.1 pct to USD 176.5bn, while the imports fell 1.3 pct to USD 222.1bn.

The Jan levels would result in net exports being almost a 0.5 point drag on the real GDP growth rate in Q1, and whole growth still looks strong.
