DOHA: The Ministry of Public Health has clarified that Qatar is free from the batches of Omafen drug recalled from some regional markers after bits of aluminium were found.

The Pharmacy and Drug Control Department at the ministry said yesterday the suspected batches are not imported to Qatar.

The ministry has ensured that the government and private pharmacies are not selling the drug manufactured by the National Pharmaceutical Industries Company in Oman.

The ministry denied reports on social networking sites about Brufen manufactured by the American Company Abbott that it contains bits of aluminium and said the product is safe and no warning has been issued by any international organisation.

The department said it has measures to prevent use of pharmaceutical products not meeting international standards.

It is also in touch with World Health Organsiation (WHO) and other health organisations regarding medicines and other pharmaceutical products.

The ministry has advised social media users to check any information with authorities before posting it to avoid spreading unnecessary panic among the public. The Peninsula
