Danish dignitaries visit Qatar Museums and QF

DOHA: H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Chairperson Qatar Museums (QM) received Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik Andre Henrik and Princess Mary Elizabeth at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA). The dignitaries were accompanied by a delegation. They toured MIA accompanied by H E Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani and Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud Acting CEO Qatar Museums.

The dignitaries saw the museum’s masterpieces of Islamic art and praised the collections and art pieces on display at MIA.

Qatar Foundation (QF) also welcomed Princess to Education City.

She toured Qatar Academy and new QF headquarters where she met H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani CEO and Vice-Chairperson.

Princess Elizabeth was given a presentation on QF’s three pillars — education science and research and community development.

QF’s education cycle which aims to engage students at every stage of their academic lives was discussed with a focus on its endeavour to unlock human potential.

Princess Elizabeth also learned more about QF’s master plan including expansion plans.

The Danish delegation including the Danish Ambassador to the UAE also visited Aspire Academy. They were welcomed by Ivan Bravo Director-General of the academy Ali Salem Afifa Deputy Director-General Abdullah Nasser Al Naimi Director-General Aspire Logistics and other members of senior management. They toured facilities and learned about educational and training programmes for students in support of Qatar’s future generation of elite athletes.

Academy officials presented an overview of its history and progress in the fields of sports education and sports science. Both sides discussed opportunities for potential collaboration.

The delegation attended a presentation by Danish football star Ebbe Sand on the concepts of utilising sport in the promotion of green energy and sustainability. They met members the Aalborg BK youth football team and staff who participated in the latest academy Tri-Series tournament of the 2015-2016 season which brings together youth teams from the academy and some of the world’s most successful and well-known clubs exposing the academy’s teams to different playing styles management philosophies and tactics to complement the development of their talent and potential.

Bravo presented the Crown Prince and Princess with a plaque. The Crown Prince and Princess praised the academy’s programmes and philosophy and thanked the officials for warm and generous hospitality.

Prince Frederick and Princess Mary were on a five-day business trip to the region including Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile Danish Health Minister Sophie Lohde visited Qatar University and met President Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham. She also visited College of Medicine and met Dr Egon Toft Vice-President for Medicine and Health and senior officials and teaching staff.

She was briefed on the college’s programmes and state-of-the-art technology and laboratories and met students to discuss their experiences at the college and plans.
