Turkey's AFAD extends helping hand to over 50 countries


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority AFAD carries out humanitarian work across 51 countries in five continents helping people after earthquakes floods fire civil wars or famine.

AFAD has given a helping hand in 13 emergency cases especially in earthquakes humanitarian crises epidemics evacuations and transport of sick or injured persons according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency reporters.

Turkey has become a country that delivers humanitarian aid carries out search-and-rescue operations performs evacuations and transportations and shares its experiences in Europe Asia Africa America and Oceania.

Turkey which is the only country which built camps for displaced Iraqis also established camps for Ezidis and Turkmen fleeing from Daesh.

Turkey is among the countries which help Palestine Syria Iraq and Somalia. It also continues toassist Haiti the Philippines Chad Bosnia-Herzegovina Japan Afghanistan Pakistan Myanmar Nepal and Albania.

AFAD has recently sent more than 5.5 tons of food and medicine to Yemen five tons of medicine and medical equipment to Afghanistan and 1200 tons of flour to Palestine.

AFAD has sent 11000 food packages to Gaza and brought 119 wounded people toTurkey together with 106 relatives.

Turkey spent $1 billion in 2012 more than $1.6 billion in 2014 and more than $2.2 billion in 2015 on humanitarianhelp.

Turkey has spent $8 billion in hosting Syrian refugees so far.

Turkey has become the third most generous country in the world for humanitarian aid between 2013 and 2015 behind only the U.S. and the U.K. according to a Global Humanitarian Assistance report.

Turkey whichhosts 2.7 million Syrian people with AFAD coordination shelters more refugees than any other country in the world according to the UN Refugee Agency.
