Qatar- QU college hosts quality reliability and risk management forum

Doha: The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) and the Quality Reliability and Maintainability Engineering Centre (QRMEC) at Qatar University (QU) College of Engineering (CENG) held a conference on quality reliability and risk management.

Themed ‘Quality Reliability and Risk Management (Q-R2M)’ the event was organised in conjunction with Rutgers University to address quality measures reliability tools and risk management strategies adopted by academics researchers and practitioners to improve productivity and reliability.

Around 50 engineers researchers and practitioners from the public and private sectors came together to discuss share and evaluate latest developments and applications in quality reliability and risk management and build academic and research collaboration and partnerships.

The opening ceremony was attended by college Dean Dr Rashid Alammari Acting Associate Dean Academic Affairs Dr Mohammed Samaka Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Dr Elsadig Mahdi college faculty students and staff.

Keynote speakers were the college’s Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Professor Dr Shaligram Pokharel and Assistant Professor Dr Fatih Mutlu Rutgers University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Distinguished Prof Elsayed A Elsayed Qatar Petroleum Head of Reliability Vimalendu Bhushan Tripathi and Maersk Oil Qatar Reliability Leader Chris Davis.

The event included panel discussions on quality management engineering process control quality profile monitoring reliability optimisation failure mode and effective analysis in oil and gas industry emerging research and practice in quality assurance maintainability assessment techniques risk assessment and control and use of modelling techniques on quality and reliability applications among others.

Dr Alammari said: “The event aligns with the college’s efforts to tackle local challenges and research solutions for issues that are of the interest of the wider community in line with QU’s mission and vision which are linked to Qatar National Vision 2030 and the development strategies.”The Peninsula
