UNSC reschedules US, China resolution against N. Korea


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK March 1 (KUNA) -- The UN Security Council rescheduled the voting process on the US-Chinese draft resolution in response to North Korea's recent nuclear test and subsequent proscribed ballistic missile launch to Wednesday.The US mission to the UN has asked on Monday that the draft sanctions resolution on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to be put in blue.The US mission led by Ambassador Samantha Power have requested that the Angolan presidency to schedule the adoption for today. Yet hours before the vote Russia invoked a procedural 24-hour review of the resolution so the vote will be on Wednesday.The resolution drafted by US and China demands all cargo going in and out of the DPRK would be subjected to mandatory inspection as well as all small arms and other conventional weapons would be prohibited from being sold to the DPRK.The resolution if adopted by the Council led by Angola for the current month would impose financial sanctions targeting DPRK banks and assets and ban all dual-use nuclear and missile-related items.The resolution also would impose sectoral sanctions on the DPRK - limiting and in some instances banning outright exports from the DPRK of coal iron gold titanium and rare earth minerals and banning the supply to the DPRK of aviation fuel particularly the rocket fuel.The US moved forward in response to the DPRK's latest series of tests aimed at advancing their nuclear weapons program.
