UAE- RAK Police round up 4614 illegal residents in a year

Ras Al Khaimah Police have nabbed 4614 illegal residents as part of the inspections launched across the emirate last year.

Lt-Colonel Mohammed bin Askar Head of the Illegal Residents and Foreigners' follow-up section of RAK police on Tuesday said the arrested hailing from different nationalities were caught during over 200 crackdowns conducted through the year.

"Some of the detainees were proved to be working with employers other than their sponsors while others were caught for not having valid residence visas" he said.

Many of the illegals arrested were living in abandoned or under-construction buildings he said adding that some were engaged in illegal activities like begging. Lt-Colonel Bin Askar said they are adopting plans to completely put an end to the phenomenon of the illegal residents.

Major-General Nassir Al Awadhi Al Menhali Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalisation Residency and Ports Affairs at the Ministry of Interior has warned residents and UAE nationals against harbouring illegal residents for which they will incur a fine of Dh50000.
